Hailing from Montreal, QC, Ol’ School Johnny is a 5-piece band that plays high-energy punk and funk influenced rock music. Featuring soaring vocal lines, catchy riffs and trombone harmonies, the band has No Doubt songwriting with a Bad Brains attitude, and is often compared to the Distillers and the Horror Pops. They are well-known for putting on movement-filled, energetic performances that get the crowd dancing.
The band was formed and named in 2008 when Sandrine and Aaron decided to start a rockabilly band. After gathering the original members and writing a few songs, they realized that none of them knew how to write rockabilly, and so they switched to good ol’ fast and hard rock 'n' roll. The name, however, stuck.
Ol’ School Johnny has since played hundreds of shows throughout Quebec and has ventured across provincial borders, touring in Ontario, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. They released an EP, “Short But Nuts Wheat,” in 2009 and a full-length album in 2012 titled “The Great Contest,” along with a music video for their single “Enter For Your Chance to Win (pt. 1)”.
After many member changes over the years, the current lineup consists of lead vocals by Sandrine Chouinard, Aaron Deck on guitar and backup vocals, Alexandre Labrie on trombone, Johnny Burton on bass and Tom Dugas on drums. They’ve recently released a 6-song EP titled “That’s Life, Man” now available on all major digital download and streaming sites.
